On this date in 1959, The 'Music' Died.    Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. (The Big Bopper) Richardson perished in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa.  Don McLean honored the trio in his classic recording "American Pie." 

"Bye Bye Miss American Pie"  The despondent writer's verses ramble on about these and other singers; Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Bob Dylan.  It's a tune I love. 

The plane crash was 61 years ago today.     The song was recorded in 1971.  McLean was despondent about the state of our country.
