This second weekend in Lent we hear the familiar story we call the Transfiguration. Three of the Apostles, Peter, James and John, were witness to Jesus becoming His spiritual self. Of course, Jesus was man and is God. They, up until this point, had only seen Him as man. They were blown away by the sight.
Contemplate what it must have been like for them. They saw a man turn into a spirit. Wow! They were so lucky to see it.
At mass, we experience a similar phenomena. Bread and wine become body and blood. It's not as visually striking as the Transfiguration but just as profound. One of the cornerstones of the Catholic Church is the belief in the "Real Presence". . . the bread and wine are not symbols of Jesus but actually Jesus. You are lucky to see it. Go watch!
