In Victor Hugo's famous novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", the focal characters are Esmeralda (a beautiful lady) and Quasimodo (the hunchback outcast). A great work to be sure.
I asked, "From where does that "Quasimodo" name come?" Well, at one time, the Catholic Church called the Sunday after Easter 'Quasimodo Sunday.' It was on this day that the new members of the church, brought in on the Saturday before Easter, were attending their first mass with the rest of the parishioners. The introductory prayer (Introit) of that mass began in Latin, "Quasi modo geniti infantes..." which reflected that the new members were "Like newborn infants..." The ogre was called "Like a child" or "Childlike". It's not a bad thing.
