THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This celebration always reminds me of my Irish Heritage and, of course, Saint Patrick.  Paddy used the three-leaf clover to explain the Trinity to his pagan listeners;  one plant, three parts, each distinct.

Of course, it's not quite that simple but it works for me.  I just know that we cannot apply the limits of our humanness to God.  God is way beyond that.  It was such a sacrifice for God to send his Son to this world for a time.  No greater love . . . a work of overwhelming love and humility.   Now, for all time, we have the Spirit.

We must now live in the Spirit who comes to us with the gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.  Paul wrote that if you live in the Spirit you will have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Do you have it?  Keep at it.
