CINCINNATI

A note that is appropriate in the time of pandemic. There is a little city within Hamilton County and adjacent to Cincinnati that was originally called Mt. Pleasant when it was founded in 1817.  It was just a stop on the road from Cincinnati to Hamilton, Ohio; a place to refresh your horse and get a drink for yourself.  We still call the main drag through the city Hamilton Avenue.

A cholera epidemic hit the Cincinnati area in 1849.   It was thought that the disease was being contracted from the Ohio River - the main water source in Cincinnati at the time.  People in fear of cholera fled the city for higher ground - especially areas with good clean wells.  Many moved to Mt. Pleasant.  The lack of disease there convinced the locals, wanting to attract more visitors, to rename the little stop on the road - Mt. Healthy.  The community grew and was incorporated as a village in 1893.  It now officially a city and proud of it's name. .

Might we find some areas of the our city, state or nation renamed as a result of the current pandemic?  It wouldn't surprise me to find that a significant shift in population has occurred when this whole deal shakes out.
