RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass you will hear three short parables found in the Gospel written by Matthew.  These are the short versions of what I hear.

First is the story about the farmer who found that an enemy had sown weeds among his crop.  He told the caretakers of his fields to ignore the weeds until harvest for fear of uprooting the whole crop.  The second is about the mustard seed which is the smallest of seeds but grows into a large tree for the benefit of both men and nature.  The third is a remark about the making of bread.  Be amazed at how such a small amount of yeast will change everything and make the dough rise.

There are a lot of things you could say about these stories.  Here is my take.  Many people wonder why a merciful God would allow bad things to happen and evil to exist.  Well, be not afraid  The strong will survive and the weak and evil will be dealt with in the end.  Also, the small things are not important - they are everything.  Do the small things well and the big things will take care of themselves.

Have a great weekend.
