LOW EARTH ORBIT!  That's where most of our satellites and the space station are.  One of the old saws of the space agency was "Low Earth Orbit, once you're there, you're halfway to anywhere in the galaxy."  Getting away from Earth's attraction (gravity) is the major obstacle.

The Gulf of Mexico is the largest gulf in the world.  Most scientists think it was formed about 300 million years ago by the movement of plates which make up the Earth's outer shell (it's called plate tectonics).  I prefer the theory that an asteroid carrying Godzilla impacted there.  Of course, Godzilla jumped off just before impact and landed near Japan.  It's just my theory.
