RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

BENGAL MANIA

Okay, here's the deal.  One of my favorite songs of all time is American Pie.  It hit the airwaves in the mid-sixties by a little known artist named Don McClean. It's long - over 8-1/2 minutes.  A mix between classic rock and folk.  It recounts several big stories of the time.  The lead story is "the day the music died."  The air disaster taking Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the "Big Bopper".  That event really effected the writer.

Well, last Sunday, "the football died" for the Bengals.  Their extraordinary first-year quarterback Joe Burrow was injured and is out for the season (at least).  They led the Washington Football Team at the time but ended up losing 30-9.

This week the Bengals play the New York Giants - one of the have-nots in the league.  The bettors line for this game had the Bengals favored by 3 points.  After the injury, it moved the Giants as favorites by 6 points.  Big difference.  One player - 9 points.  Not many players in the league would command that kind of respect.

Cincinnati will wear their color rush jerseys again.   Hopefully, it will give our new starting quarterback (Brandon Allen or Ryan Finley) a spark.  A prayer might be in order.  Luckily, there is almost no weaker team in the league at this point than these Giants.  At least it will be interesting.
