RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI

I recently saw an illustration of the Cincinnati riverfront that was dated 1800.  It included four streets running from North to South ending at the Ohio River.  They were from west to east; Walnut, Main, Sycamore and Broadway.  Sycamore Street ended at Yeatman's Cove.  I can't vouch for the accuracy of the picture.

Today, those four streets are still there; they make up the easterly half of downtown.  The big difference is that only one of them reaches the river.  We've built stadia and freeways near the river and now a park on the riverbank.  Only Broadway still makes it to the river or public landing.  As for Yeatman's Cove, it's gone but up stream a bit you'll find a large park that carries it's name.
