CINCINNATI

A few Sundays ago, I enumerated all the bridges that cross the Ohio River near Cincinnati.  There is another way to cross that river - many people use it every day.  It is the Anderson Ferry.

The Anderson Ferry predates all those bridges.  It has been in constant service since 1817.  It's named after the founder of the business George Anderson.  (No, he never managed the Reds.)

The ferry runs from Anderson Ferry Road in Ohio to Rt. 8 in Hebron, Kentucky - both are west of Cincinnati city center.  A ferry is available every day of the year except Christmas - there are three ferries available during busy periods.

The trip takes only15 minutes at most, depending on river current.  It saves Cincinnati westsiders a lot of time traveling to the airport and business on that side of northern Kentucky.  The Anderson Ferry will transport your car across the river for $5 or $3.50 if you buy ahead.  A walk-on is charged 50 cents.  They haven't raised their prices for years.
