This weekend at Catholic mass you will hear, on the first Sunday of Lent, a time in the life of Jesus when he subjected himself to a period of renewal much like our Lent. According to Mark, Jesus went into the desert and stayed there for forty days. Out there, he lived with only the food and water you can find in a desert. Out there, he lived with the beasts and insects on the near barren land. Out there, while under stress, he was tempted by the devil. He prayed to the Father.
Of course, Jesus did not need to repent but underwent all the hardships that lead to a purification of the spirit. This is what we need to do this Lent - the next forty days. Stress yourself. Undergo a type of purification. Pray to the Father.
And, at the end of the forty days, do what Jesus did. Mark says he went into the town proclaiming the gospel of God. He encouraged all to repent and believe in the gospel.
God bless you. Have a great weekend. I love you.
