Hiccup is a very interesting word.  I get them every once in a while.  I think they were originally known as hiccoughs.  Hiccup was adopted because it echoes the sound of the action.  This stomach spasm usually goes away in a few minutes but not always.  I remember that Pope Pius XII had long bouts of the malady.  He died of a stroke; the hiccups couldn't have helped. - - - No . . . they're not always associated with drinking.
