CINCINNATI

About one year ago, it was announced that Cincinnati had the greatest population decline of any city in the country with over 100,000.  That sounds like a very bad statistic.

Keep this in mind.  In the last 10 years, the surrounding counties did this:  Butler County up 4%, Warren County up 10%, and Clermont County up 4%.  Cincinnati is more than just the city - it is the center of a metropolitan area.  I live in Butler County and tell those from outside the area I chance to meet that I'm from Cincinnati. I don't think that's uncommon.

Further, I don't think the decline in Cincinnati population indicates that there are empty houses and apartments all over the place.   That's not happening.  Next generation people are moving to the surrounding Ohio counties and to northern Kentucky.

And why are they doing that - because they can and it's less expensive for what you can get.  The City of Cincinnati had better figure out a way to attract rather than disperse it's citizens - especially the talented young.  I observe that a review of county real estate taxes would be a good place to start.
