MIDWEEK PRAYER

As a Roman Catholic, we are encouraged to model our lives after the saints, especially Jesus' mother Mary.  Not only to model our lives after them but to use them as a vehicle to carry prayers to God.  We often ask those already in heaven to pray for us.

There are other spirit figures, those we call angels, who we specifically ask to directly help us.  From the Bible and other writings, we only know three of these beings by name which we call archangels; Gabriel the messenger, Raphael the healer and Michael the protector and leader of all angels.  Many religions of the world recognize these spiritual beings.

Today, I recall a prayer from my childhood directed to Michael.  Recently I've heard to recited and it provoked memories; this is the version as I learned it.  Recite it with me.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the malice and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
