The word this weekend at Catholic mass is DOUBT. What about religion do you doubt? Certainly, never doubt that God will take care of you.
The first reading you will hear is from Exodus. The Israelites were doubting that God would take care of them after He arranged for them to escape from Egypt. They feared they would starve in the desert. God eased their fears by giving them bread every morning and food at night.
The second reading is from Paul's letter to the Ephesians. He tells them to put on a new self - to change their ways - be confident, it will all work out.
The Gospel reading is from John. Jesus tried to get some rest after teaching that large crowd and feeding them with loaves and fishes. He went to a secluded location but they found him again. They demanded more - more signs, more miracles. They wanted food forever just like their Israelite ancestors with Moses. Well, Jesus had enough of that gimme, gimme, gimme. "Give us bread always!" they said. Then, He hit them with the difficult truth - not the one they expected to hear. Jesus said, "My Father gave the Israelites bread from Heaven. They were always hungry. He gives you even better - He gives you the true bread from Heaven that gives life to the world." He said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never hunger, whoever believes in me will never thirst."
It's not that hard.
I love you.
