RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

At Catholic mass this weekend we have more DOUBT and some DESPAIR.  One leads to the other if you're not careful.

From the Old Testament Book of Kings, Elijah, both king and prophet fell into despair.  So bad that he wanted to lay down and die.  He was on a journey by foot and thought he would never make it.  God sent him food and drink.  He completed his journey to Mt. Horeb - the Mountain of God.  Note that again we see same story, this time hundreds of years before Christ was born.  God sending food and drink to save his people.

Of course, this is the precursor to Jesus coming to earth.  His body and blood are given to all of us so that we can complete our journey.

In the Gospel, John tells the story of how those who were familiar with Jesus, his parents and his upbringing, were loathe to believe that He was anything but a man.  He reiterated to them that He is the bread of life which has come down from heaven; from His Father.  It was hard for the locals to believe. Even seeing miracles, some found it difficult.

It should not be hard for us to believe.  We have the whole picture before us.
