Two big games for the locals this weekend. The University of Cincinnati Bearcats venture into Big Ten territory to play the Indiana University Hoosiers in Bloomington. IU has played below expectations so far. It's important for UC to get this game under control early - not like last week. Game time is noon on Saturday (6 am if you're in Hawaii). Bettors are making Cincinnati a 3-1/2 point favorite.
On Sunday, the Bengals go to the Windy City for a clash with the Chicago Bears led by Andy Dalton. The Bears got beat up pretty bad last week by the LA Rams (who are very good). Last week, the Bengals offensive line held up as well as could be expected - they need to do that again against some very talented Bear rushers. Cincinnati's defensive line was outstanding. Ja'marr got over his dropsies but Eli Apple was burned as feared.
The wild card in this game is the Chicago quarterback. Dalton will start but the fans up there want rookie Justin Fields from Ohio State to take over - he has a descent arm but brilliant legs. Fields will get to play a little - let's hope we can handle him when he does.
Two-and-oh would be an awesome start to the season for our young team. The bettors have moved the line down to 2-1/2 in favor of the Bengals with a small total of 45 (they expect a low scoring game).
Two winners would ease the pain of the Reds' swoon - not to mention FC Cincinnati.
