NEW YEARS EVE!
This Saturday, New Years Day, we celebrate solemnly the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. This is the eighth day of Christmas. By Jewish law, Jesus was circumcised this day and officially given the name of Jesus. Shepherds were streaming in to see the child that angels told them was there. Mary nursed the God-Child. All seemed well. Joy was with the world.
This Sunday, we celebrate what we call the Epiphany. Traditionally celebrated on the 6th, it recounts the visitation of the Three Magi. The Holy Family was in some sort of home by the time the Magi arrived. These wealthy men came, brought gifts and did Jesus homage. It was the beginning. It let Mary and Joseph know how it might be. Joy was at its peak.
On their departure, what the world could be - became real. The parents were advised to leave the country - travel to Egypt for the safety of the child. Governor Herod had many children murdered trying to eliminate what he was told would be the new king of the Jews. Not 'til Herod died, did the Holy Family return to Israel.
The joyful event must have been exhilarating to mother and father. The Holy Family was obedient to laws of their religion. Life is full of both great joy and great sadness. Take good advice. Stay the course.
Have a safe New Years Eve and a great 2022. I love you. Pray for me. I will pray for you.
