RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THIS N THAT

I had some chicken with gnocchi soup earlier this week.  It's an Italian word meaning a dumpling usually made out of potato.  It's easy to eat but not so easy to pronounce.  We of the modern English tend to try to include every letter.  Webster tells me it should be pronounced na'-ke; short a and long e not silent.

While I'm talking about words, I've been thinking recently about silent letters in our language.  Like the letter P in Psalm but not so obvious.  Doesn't the man's name Doug have a silent O?   Again I wind up with the thought I've had many times; simplifying our spelling.   With all the text abbreviations, it is time.  DYA?  IDK.

If a chicken gets a lot of little sores on it's skin, do we call the disease humanpox.
