BASEBALL

Does anyone miss baseball yet?   Personally, I'm still hungover from the Super Bowl.

Here is some interesting history about MLB to get your juices flowing.

Boston got into the professional baseball business in 1883, with the Boston Beaneaters.  No, I didn't make that up.  They were the Beaneaters through 1906.  In 1907, that franchise chose to be called the Doves.  That lasted until 1911 when they changed their name to the Rustlers.  One year of being outlaws pushed them to become the Boston Braves in 1912.  They carried that name through 1935.  Keep in mind that this was a National League franchise.  In 1936, they changed their name to the Bees.  I have no idea why.  That lasted through 1940.  From 1941 to 1952, they were the Boston Braves again.  In 1953, the franchise was moved to Milwaukee and then to Atlanta in 1966.  The Braves are still there.

The American League Boston team began in 1901 as the Boston Americans.  In 1908, they changed to the Boston Red Sox and remain as such today.  Sweet Caroline.

This is interesting:  the great Babe Ruth began with the Boston Red Sox in 1914.  After the worst trade in the history of the game, from 1920 to 1934, he played with the New York Yankees.  In 1935, he came back to Boston but played with the National League Boston Braves for that one last year of his 21-year career.
