Back to America with my quote series; this time we look at the words of Henry Ford. He was the founder of the Ford Motor Company and the principal developer of the assembly line method of manufacturing. Mr. Ford worked on automobile design in the 1890's and produced his first vehicle in June 1896 - a 'car' called the quadricycle. In 1901, he started the Ford Motor Company but sold it to work on building race cars. In 1903, he, with the help of others, founded a new Ford Motor Company and produced their first cars. Here are some selected quotes from Mr. Ford.
"Before everything else, getting ready is the secret to success."
"An idealist is a person who helps other people to be prosperous."
"Thinking is the hardest work there is - which is probably why so few engage in it."
"Any customer can have a car painted any color he wants - as long as it is black."
"Bankers play far too great a part in the conduct of industry."
"Money is only a tool in business. It is just a part of the machinery. ... A business that misuses what it has will continue to misuse what it can get."
"You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do."
"I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one - and enjoy with his family the blessings of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces."
