RETRO DAY

I often feel I should have been a teacher - so from time to time I can't control myself in acting like one.  It's a bad thing I can't control.  Here is a shot from seven years ago.  Now, I'm sitting here trying to apply the following to my golf game.

LEARNING

Most everyone has five senses (even those with no sense).  We use these senses to learn.  The senses teach by experience.  Sometimes we use a single sense, sometimes several and other times we use them all.

Listen to a lecture and only your sense of hearing is working.  But a fire ... see the flames, hear the wood crackling, smell the smoke and feel the heat. You may even taste the soot in your mouth.  You know a lot about fire.

Doh!  Everyone knows about fire.   Well, okay.  What about mathematics. Does everyone know about it? No!  It's much harder to teach a child about mathematics.  That's because math doesn't hit all our senses.  But, if it did, it would be easier to learn.  If you or your child is having trouble learning something, try to make it hit more senses.

The number 'two' spoken could be more than just an idea.  It could be two things pictured.  It could be two things held or felt.  It could be two things eaten.

Trying to memorize a song?  You could listen to it over and over again but that wouldn't compare to seeing the lyrics in print.  Seeing the lyrics in print wouldn't compare to writing the lyrics on paper.

Apply this theory to anything you are trying to learn or teach.  Hit as many senses as possible.  It works.
