RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

THE WORD THIS WEEKEND

This weekend at Catholic mass you will hear a gospel passage from Luke in which Jesus goes out to eat at a Pharisee's house.  During his stay, he told all present a story, a parable if you will, about a person who has a wedding banquet.  I'll boil it down for you.  The story is another call for us to be humble.  Take the last place at the table and not the first lest you be asked to move to a lower place.   In Jewish life, status was very important and places near the master or the one throwing the banquet were very meaningful.

That was the first part of the parable.  The second might be more meaningful for us.  When you have a dinner or party for others, don't limit your invitation list to the most important people you know.  Don't waste time inviting people who are wealthy and could invite you back if they choose.  Find the lowly; those not often invited to a dinner or party.  Invite those that you know would not be able to invite you to their home.  It's a good lessen and a good thing to do if you can do it.

Jesus was big on being humble.  I think we should take that cue from Him.

Have a great weekend.  Bless you!  I love you.
