THIS N THAT

Platypus is an animal like no other.  It is a mammal - it has a placenta but it lays eggs - yet it provides milk to it's young - it swims like a fish - it has fur like a rodent - it has a venom injector like a snake but it's on it's foot - it has a bill like a duck - and a tail like a beaver.   It is endemic to eastern and southern Australia and Tasmania.  It's image can be found on the Australian 20 cent piece.

The U.S. Minuteman Missiles were not named after the Revolutionary War fighters as you might suspect.  They chose the name because the missile could leave the silo just one minute after launch control was initiated.

The relative size of things amazes me.  You could fit a million Earths inside the Sun which is our star.  That's big.  Well, how about this?  The largest star we have discovered (UY Scuti) is large enough to fit 5 billion of our Suns in it.  Could that be?

The anchor of a modern US Navy aircraft carrier weighs about 15 tons.  It's chain is 1,440' long and each link weighs 136 lbs.  To lift an anchor is to weigh it.  Ergo: Anchors Aweigh when setting sail.

The first mobile phone went on sale to the public in 1983 for $4,000.
