You've probably heard once or twice in the last six years that Washington DC is a "swamp" that needs to be drained. A political metaphor to be sure.
That takes me to Indonesia. It is the fourth most populated country in the world; yes it is. It is an island country, made up of some 17,000 islands situated in Southeast Asia between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta; with a population of over 10 million souls - it is the largest city in all of Southeast Asia.
I don't think any politician has called Jakarta a swamp but they might soon. You see, that city is sinking - sinking into the ocean. So what are the Indonesians to do? Drain the place like it has been proposed we do with DC? No!
No! No! They are building a new capital city almost from scratch (on higher ground, I presume). The new capital city will be called Nusantara. It is mostly new and will be "green" with up-to-date infrastructure. It should be ready to move into by 2035 - so the kids in world geography class and the smarties on Jeopardy will have to be prepared.
Is anyone out there thinking that we should build a new capital city in our country? ... in a "red" area? No, wouldn't work.
Enjoy your Monday the 13th. Don't be afraid.
