This is left over from Independence Day. Charles Carroll was the only Roman Catholic to sign our Declaration of Independence. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress and Senator from Maryland.
Carroll had been bared from holding public office in Maryland, as were all Catholics, by law since 1704. He and most Catholics took no part in the political games.
During the 1770s, the fervor for independence grew within the colonies and Carroll became a staunch supporter of the independence movement. In fact, he ended up being one who openly debated on the floor of the Continental Congress that war with England was the only answer. Charles Carroll is known as one of this country's Founding Fathers.
Take your religious beliefs to the ballot box. It is part of who you are. Vote your true conscience.
Say a Hail Mary for our country today.
