I had my hot water heater replaced last week. I was flushing it dutifully as I did every year or so and the blasted drain valve wouldn't shut off completely. It was only a little leak but I couldn't have it; couldn't waste that hot water running down a drain. The tank was fifteen years old and due to be replaced, so I bit the bullet.
No big deal except that the price of these things is not how I remember it in the 1980s. No matter, that's life.
Today, as I was showering, it struck me how little we appreciate hot water at our fingertips. How much of the world never experiences hot water unless it's put on the stove or over a fire? How little do we appreciate water at our fingertips? How much of the world has to walk to a well, stream or river? We are such a spoiled people here in the Western World. We have good fortune and never really appreciate it.
Lord, thank you for the water we drink, cook, bathe and wash with.
