I was told a week or so ago that I was "one of a kind". Is that good or bad? It's surely true - we're all different in some way; of course we're all alike some other ways.
Much of the conversation while gabbing with old friends is relating past experiences and the feelings they invoke. It's so reassuring to find that others have gone through the same toils and troubles as we. It inspires a good feeling; one of well-being. We surely are glad that we are, at least in some ways, just like others. Of course we're all in the same race but some run it in very different ways.
Friendship is reassuring in some respects and also a trap we can fall into; especially when we are young. It leads to "going along with the crowd" no matter what the circumstances. Others can lead us to think differently. When we pick our friends, it's most important that they have the same or higher ideals as we and are as highly moral. That they are in most ways similar to what you would hope to be.
Like it or not, we all tend to try to fit in; to avoid being "one-of-a-kind." Pick your friends wisely. Shuck those who do what you never would want to do if left alone.
To reach the heights, aim high. To soar highest, hang out with eagles not crows.
