QUOTES

This makes two days in a row I've repeated old entries.  I think this, from two years ago, is worthwhile.

QUOTES

Because of the July 4 celebration, I am compelled to find some quotes of Thomas Jefferson.  He, as a founding father of our country, authored the Declaration of Independence, served as Governor of Virginia, became our first Secretary of State, Vice-President for John Adams and our third President.  He has been memorialized with his likeness carved into Mount Rushmore.  Here are a few of his notable quotes.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy but cannot disjoin them."

"No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms in his own land."

"All persons shall have full and free liberty of religious opinion; nor shall any be compelled to frequent or maintain any religious institution."

"A free people claim their rights, as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their magistrate."

"The whole art of government consists in the art of being honest."

"Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press and that cannot be limited without being lost."

"I hold it that a little rebellion, now and then, is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical."

"The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground."

This last is so true.  We must guard against government taking away our liberties.
