NEWS OF THE WEEK

Another assassination attempt on Donald J Trump!  I think this one didn't get a shot off.  No blood!  Are we taking these things too lightly?

UT jumped ahead of UG last weekend.  Surprising people think Texas could beat Georgia.  UK played Georgia so well in a loss that they got knocked down.  UC edged Miami on the local college scene.   XU didn't play last weekend.

On the movie scene, "The Life of Chuck" won top prize at the Toronto International Film Fest.  It's in limited release right now.  It's based on a Stephen King story about a dancer meant to make you sad and happy.

"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" was the box office leader in the U.S. for the second week in a row.  It's the second in a series??? filmed 36 years after the original "Beetlejuice" in 1988.  Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara are in it and were in the original.  Warner Bros. tried to sell the flic to MAX instead of going to theaters because they thought it was a flop.  It has made $264 million in two weeks.

FX's Japanese series "Shogun" sliced up the competition and cleaned up at the Emmy Awards. Get it?

The Fed cut interest rates on things the government controls by one-half point i.e. one-half percent.  All other interest rates will fall in line with this change.  Borrowing will be less expensive - significantly for home mortgages. (See my entry for Thursday of next week!)
