RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

NEWS OF THE WEEK

This week, President-elect Trump completed his list of 15 nominees for Cabinet advisers requiring Senate confirmation.  I think that makes 50 posts potentially filled.  Charges against Trump are being deferred or dropped on various locales.

I think they are still counting ballots in California for some state positions. ??

The United Nations coerced rich nations to agree to donate money into a fund for developing nations to establish a climate resiliency fund.  This fund will help these second world countries overcome problems caused by climate change - ostensibly caused mostly by the rich countries.  China is considered a poor, developing country.  The goal is for the fund is to have $300 billion in it annually by 2035.  This was all a big disappointment to the hardline climate change crowd who were pushing for $1.3 trillion.  The USA is the second largest emitter of hydro-carbons in the world.

Israel and the Hezbollah group have reached a cease-fire agreement.  Quiet there for a while.  Not far away, the Syrian Civil War is heating up again.  It's been going on for years.  The problem for the government forces, which are supported by Russia, are not getting their usual support.  It seems Russia is busy fighting in Ukraine and can't be spread that thin.

The US Stock Market continues to buzz along at a moderate pace.  It is normal for the market to do well the final two months of the year.

XU stumbled once last week in a tournament game against Michigan.  Cincinnati is solid so far.  The bearcats face a tough Villanova squad this week. The UC football squad has squandered their chance for a bowl game unless they can upset TCU today.

Most of the country ate more than their rightful share on Thursday.
