RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

4/26/2025

NEWS OF THE WEEK - SPORTS

The enigmatic Reds; last Saturday they sent their best pitcher out against the Orioles and got whipped. On Sunday, the weak-hitting bunch from Cincinanti set records with a 24-run explosion.  Go figure!  On to Miami to play the Marlins - easy pickings you say?  They lost the first two - very unceremoniously.  They did manage to claim the finale on get-away day.  Last night they were in the mountains playing the Rockies.  This night, the cold and damp and foggy weather made for a wild game.  The boys hung on and in the end won 8-7.

The Bengals remained quiet until that 17th overall pick was announced on Thursday night.  They selected Shemar Stewart, an edge rusher from Texas A&M who can't tackle college players.  Maybe he'll do better in the pros with a little tutoring from our new defensive coaches.  On Friday, they took Demetrius Knight, a linebacker from South Carolina who is close to being on social security.  He has a wife and two kids and will be one of the older players on the Bengals.  In round 3, with the 81st pick, they selected an offensive guard named Dylan Fairchild.  He was second-team all-SEC.  They are  hoping he's a first teamer in the NFL.

FC Cincinanti soccer boys went to Chicago last Saturday and put out the Fire 3-2.  This brought their record to 6-2-1 and second place in the MLS pool.  Sporting KC flies in from Kansas City tonight bringing a weak 2-6-1 record to town - that puts them 13th in the MLS standings.

The NBA playoffs has begun.  It should end sometime in June.  Freshman Cooper Flagg of Duke has announced he will enter the NBA draft.

Pro Football Hall of Famer, Shannon Sharpe is facing a $50M sexual assault and battery lawsuit.  It doesn't sound good.

The playoffs have begun for the NHL.  The hockey finals is one of the most exciting games of any sport.  It's also, the only one I watch all season.
