NEWS OF THE WEEK

 The week started with news from Rome that Pope Francis had passed away.  It need not have been a shock but death always is - for some reason.  The President and Mrs. Trump flew in for the funeral which is taking place this morning.  

US banking regulators have cleared the way for Capital One to acquire Discover Financial.  We;ve seen a lot of Dicover Card ads recently in an attempt to increase the value of their company.  (A note: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover Card - in that order - are the largest credit card lenders)

The US military is again attacking-by-air Yemen based Houthis bases which are disrupting Red Sea travel and commercial navigation.

The National Archives released more documents concerning the assassination of John F and Robert F Kennedy.  I haven't heard much come of it.  

The Trump Administration is still going at it with federal judges who are attempting to block it's actions regarding the deportation of undocumented immegrants and the downscaling of federal agencies. 

A 10-year-old girl has become the youngest graduate of a college in California with 2 associate degrees.  The degrees were in science and math and she scored a near perfect 4.0 gpa.

One of the few new releases this weekend, "Sinners" was the leader in box office gate.  Second place was held by "A Minecraft Movie" which is still drawing a large number of viewers and has now made a lot of money.   Third leader was "King of Kings" which got the Easter bump.

Stock Markets had a good week.  All indices are much higher.  Of course, the Volatility Index is way down.  That means buyers and sellers are calming or are tired of all the teriff talk.

The US Education Department announced it will restart collecting on overdue loan payments on May 5.  They had put off involuntary collections for five years beginning with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The US FDA has ordered food manufacturers to phase out the use of eight petroleum-based artificial dyes from our food.  

India and Pakistan are fighting again.  They started squabling in the Kashmir region shortly after I was born - that's a long time ago..  

YouTube is now 20 years old!
