Yes, Monday was named after our Moon. Many moons ago when people got to put names to things, they were enthralled with objects in the sky. They didn't know much of a difference between moons, planets and stars. Stars came out at night. Sun came out in the day. The Moon was out most nights but sometimes you could see it in the daytime. Strange, in that regard, isn't it? They thought that it might have some control over them. Maybe it did.
The moon, which seemed to have a face at times, also changed the way it looks every day. You know, it can be full, half, quarter or missing. It can be waining or waxing. (getting smaller or larger). Here's what we have coming.
The moon phase today is first quarter. By next Sunday and Monday, the waxing gibbous moon will be a full moon. The following week we will have the waning gibbous moon turning to last quarter on the 19th. The waning crescent will end that week and turn to a new moon on Monday the 26th.
