MARIEMONT

Mariemont is a planned community near Cincinnati that was founded in 1920 by Mary Emery. It is one of the few villages in the country to be registered on the National List of Historic Places. Mariemont now has the distinction of National Historic Landmark status. It is also one of the few communities in the country that still elects a Town Crier.



The Mariemont Theater was opened in 1939. The first movie it showed was "Sing You Sinners" starring Donald O'Conner and Bing Crosby.



The Mariemont Players began producing live theater in Cincinnati in 1936. They have had regular performance seasons since 1950. Since 1958, they have been performing at their own Walton Creek Theater.



Construction of the Mariemont Inn began in 1925. It was originally planned to be much larger than it is now with a design to cover its entire block. It has the distinction of being one of the few hotels to be admitted to the National Trust Historic Hotels of America.
