RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

CINCINNATI SPORTS LAST WEEK

On Tuesday night, the Bearcats were in South Florida playing the Bulls and embarrassing themselves, again. SFU, who I thought UC could handle, won 70-59. Since the big emotional win against West Virginia, the team has looked like they thought the season was over.

Xavier had their return match with Dayton at Cintas Center on Thursday night. The Flyers are so much smaller that it is amazing that the Muskies don't really match up that well against them. On this night, XU shot the three's and put down UD 76-59. It was really closer than that.

The Reds are plodding along. The World Baseball Classic takes away a lot of good players so its harder than ever to figure out how things are going.

The Bengals lost TJ to the Seahawks and immediately picked up Jets free agent Laveranues Coles. I'll never be able to memorize how to spell that first name. They then signed J.T. O'Sullivan from as Carson Palmer's back-up. O'Sullivan was the starter for the 49ers for the first eight games last year. Ryan Fitzpatrick has gone to the Bills to throw to Terrell Owens.

On Saturday, UC had Seton Hall into town for their final game of the regular season. The Cats had a 14 point lead in the first half and managed to squander it away and send the game into overtime. Their ineptitude continued in the OT and they lost 67-63. The sadness of how they played the last two weeks of the season continued.

Xavier played Richmond in their final A-10 regular season game and were upset 80-75. I assume they had a big letdown after sewing up the league title earlier in the week. The Muskies are now 24-6 on the season and rated #17 in the country going into their league tournament.
