GREED

One of the problems in today's world is coming clear.  The secular attitude of limiting population growth though various means of birth control is causing unfavorable economic consequences.  It is safe to say that the Earth has had increasing population since it's very beginning until my generation.  In the last 50 years or so, the world has seen its first overall decrease in population growth and, in isolated countries, stagnant or reduced populations.

Growth rates of nations vary widely.  The U.S. currently has a positive but declining birth rate resulting in a small increase of population.  China is on a course of very slight growth which will not sustain its population for very long.  Russia and other countries of the former USSR are having negative birth rates...their populations are actually declining. The largest population growths can be seen in African and Middle Eastern countries. Emigration has only some small positive effect on populations densities.

What causes the variances of population growth?  1) Fear.   Countries where many die before their time tend to have much greater birth rates.  It is innate in human nature.  2) Greed/selfishness.  Supposedly intelligent people decide that 'less people' would mean more for those living.  This doctrine is preached in schools, some churches and by the government.

Just now, many countries of the world are finding out that they do not (or soon will not) have enough young, healthy people to work (pay taxes) and support the elderly and those who cannot work.   There are two possible solutions to this problem.  Increase birth rates or do away with the elderly and those who cannot work.  I'll be dead before this happens, will you or your children?
