On this day in 1987, WFAN radio began broadcasting in New York City. This is significant because it was the first station with a 24-hour all-sports format. This may come as a shock to those born after about 1980. Sports was not always the overwhelming force in society that it is now and has been for the last twenty-five years. As much as I love sports, I'm not sure this is a good thing.
