Today, the second week of Lent, we look at one of the five major events in the life of Jesus Christ - the Transfiguration. Here's what happened and why it is significant.
Jesus took three of his disciples, Paul, James and John, with him to a mountain top as witnesses. Here He transformed Himself into a brilliant shining 'after-life' being. It was proven to be 'after-life' because He walked with Moses and Elijah who they recognized and were known to have passed on.
As the three Apostles looked on in amazement, a voice from the clouds above spoke to them. The voice, surely God, said that Jesus was His "son" and that He should be "listened to". The Apostles were told not to tell anyone about this until Jesus had died.
In one event, we have confirmation that Jesus was the Son of God; that Jesus' word superseded what was said by writers, teachers and prophets. This often-overlooked event cements the foundation of the Faith.
