It sounds as simple as one-two-three today. "Check the DNA." When I was a young man, it was unheard of. Twenty-five years ago it was a thing of science fiction - the basis for cloning. Today scientists are sequencing it to determine parentage as well as tendency to illness. Its a miracle.
DNA is a molecule that tells living organisms how to develop. It lives in every one of the cells of your body. Children get their DNA from their parents who got theirs from their parents. Every person's DNA is made partly from one parent and partly from their other parent. For the most part, that is true.
When you look a little closer, you find that some of our DNA is called mitochondrial DNA. Now genomic DNA is mostly double strand molecules - one strand from the father and the other from the mother. This is the majority of DNA molecules. Mitochondrial DNA comes solely from the mother. We all have it.
So, if you think you're just like your father or mostly like your father - - - forget it. You have some building blocks in you that only your mother has given you. You're so lucky.
