I have a memory that is not very clear. When I was young, I think we saved "tin foil". It may have been aluminum but we always called it "tin foil". I suppose it was similar to what we now wrap around our leftover food. I see big balls of it. This must have been a leftover idea from World War II when metals were scarce.
The strangest part of the memory is about chewing gum. I think individual sticks of gum, in those days, were wrapped in a paper and foil combination. The paper was a very thin waxed product. The foil was very thin and it was attached to the paper. Anyway, you could separate the foil from the paper and save it.
And you thought my generation wasn't into recycling!
