On this date 5,128 years ago today, (that's 3114 BC) the Mayan long count calendar begins. That's a hell of a long time ago. The Mayans, of course, lived in Central and South America. Their oldest settlements date to about 2000 BC.
You may remember the uproar this calendar caused a few years ago. The complete cycle of this calendar ended on December 21, 2012. People thought it might mark the end of the world.
It amazes me to think about time. It boggles the mind trying to put ancient people and events in chronological order.
