COLD BLOODED

Reptiles you are probably familiar with are snakes, lizards, crocodiles and turtles. You've probably heard that reptiles are cold blooded.  Well, that's not exactly an accurate description.

You see, these friends of ours don't have a sophisticated internal heating system like we humans do.  They have to gain heat from outside sources or from their metabolism.  Most of these guys have internal temperatures about the same as the outside temperature.  When its cold out, they're cold and when it's hot out, they're hot.   They have to hibernate when its too cold for them to function.

Our bodies keep us at a cozy 98.2 F or thereabouts unless we become ill.  No matter the outside temperature, our body temperature stays the same if everything is working properly.  Humans can stand a wide range of outside temperatures.  Well, most of us.
