I read an article recently that explained that school kids in Japan had to clean their school. Not just once in a while but all the time. Some did the class rooms, some the halls and others the cafeteria and assembly hall. The schools over there don't employ cleaning people - the kids do it all. For this reason, the students have a greater respect for their school and not a one wants to get it dirty. What a great idea.

WHEN I WAS A KID
When I was a kid, we had to cover our school books in a prescribed manor. Heavy brown paper - folded and taped inside but not taped to the book itself. The books were precious. We were strictly forbidden to put a mark in or on them. We could write on the brown paper cover - appropriately.
