On this date in 1953, the US, China and North Korea signed an armistice agreement effectively ending the Korean (War) Conflict. South Korea refused to sign but agreed to honor the armistice.
The agreement established the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea that still stands today and is still manned by the US military. Over 36,000 Americans were killed in the fighting and another 100,000 were wounded and almost 8,000 are still listed as missing in action.
On this date in 1995, the Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Washington D.C.
