RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

9/21/2015

SEPTEMBER 21

On this date in 1981, Sandra Day O'Connor was unanimously approved by the Senate as a member of the US Supreme Court.  She was the first-ever woman member of the nine-member court.

She was nominated by President Ronald Reagan.  Presidents who get to nominate Supreme Court members have a huge effect on our country long after they leave office themselves.  Supreme Court members serve for life.  Justice O'Conner served until she chose to retire in 2002.

Ms. O'Conner was a conservative member of the court.  President Goerge W. Bush nominated Samuel Alito to succeed her.  Mr. Alito is a very conservative Associate Justice.

Pray no members of the court need to be replaced before BHO is replaced.
