NOVEMBER 9

On this date in 1989, East Germany opened check-points in the Berlin Wall allowing it's citizens to travel to West Berlin for the first time in twenty-eight years.  It marked the beginning of the end for the Berlin Wall and the death knell for the strangle-hold of communism in eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.  The demolition of the wall began the following Summer.
