RANDOM MUSINGS FROM THE TOP OF THE HILL

WHEN I WAS A KID

When I was a kid, about 12, the Russians beat us into space with the launching of their satellite called Sputnik. That was 1957.

It caused a little panic in Washington.  Legislators pushed what became known as the STEM program.  It called for increased emphasis in public schools on Science, Technology, Electronics and Mathematics.  Engineering became a much preferred college major.

It sucked me in.  Yuck!
