On this date in 1782, Congress adopted the Great Seal of the United States.

Notice that there are thirteen stars in the cloud, thirteen stripes on the flag, thirteen arrows in the bald eagle's talon, thirteen leaves on the olive branch, thirteen olives on the olive branch and that there are thirteen letters in the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM (one from many).

What do you think this means?  Surely, there is more to it than the fact that there were thirteen original colonies.  I wonder...
