On this date in 1965, Bob Dylan changed forever the music of our time. Dylan was a folk singer/artist - one of the best and most loved. He was appearing at the famous Newport Folk Festival and out he comes to do a set with an electric guitar. OMG. The folk fans were mortified. Dylan melded folk music into rock. The two became one. Four years and one month later, the Woodstock Music Festival featured the wide range of folk and rock artists (though not Dylan). Rolling Stone Magazine selected Dylan's 1965 hit single "Like a Rolling Stone" the number one song of all time. This was Dylan's first song done in rock music format with electric elements.
